Q: Are You Often Thinking About HAIR LOSS? PDF Print E-mail

State-of-the-Art Hair Restoration

For individuals struggling with hair loss, good news is here — the Aesthetic Center for Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery is now offering a hair-loss restoration procedure. Leading this service is Dr. Leonik Ahumada who has received extensive training in hair-loss treatment.

“Hair transplant surgery is an effective hair replacement solution” says Dr. Ahumada, “By the time patients visit with me, they have already tried several other treatments to curb their hair loss.”

hairstory1.jpgThe actual procedure takes approximately four to six hours at the Aesthetic Center. A local anesthesia is used so patients remain awake. Every need is attended to so the patient can watch DVDs or read a book from a comfortable recliner during the surgery. Dr. Ahumada transplants hair follicles from the back of the scalp to the target areas.

“The scalp has regional differences, so I use hair which is donor dominant for a successful transplant,” adds Dr. Ahumada.

Hair transplantation is an operation that takes hair from the back of the head and moves it to the area of hair loss. The fringe of hair on a balding scalp is known
as donor-dominant hair — it is the hair that will continue to grow throughout the life of most men. The transplantation of this hair to a bald area does not change its ability to grow.

Candidates for hair transplant surgery are those individuals with hair loss who have sufficient donor hair. In the past, many bald patients were not suitable candidates for this procedure, but modern techniques have advanced the art of hair transplant surgery so many more individuals are now candidates.

Hair loss is a life-long process, noting specifically that most men will develop male pattern baldness (due to male hormones) until approximately 40 to 45 years
of age. After that, the aging process thins the entire head of hair.

“Many patients have suffered emotionally and in other ways,” says Dr. Ahumada, “This is my way of helping them overcome this challenge.”

Dr. Ahumada encourages interested individuals to meet with him for an initial consultation and welcomes questions and concerns. “I see this as an educational tool,” he adds, “and am happy to explain this procedure and its benefits.”
